Job Description

The Cooke County Sheriff's Office is seeking professional and responsible individuals to serve as Correctional Officers within our correctional facility. This position plays a key role in maintaining the safety, security, and order of the facility and ensuring the welfare of inmates, staff, and the public. Responsibilities include maintaining safety and security inside the correctional facility, conducting routine physical inspections of facilities, searching inmates and visitors to prevent contraband, receiving, booking, and securing inmates upon intake, supervising inmates during daily activities such as court appearances, recreation, visitation, and meal services, processing legal documents and maintaining accurate records, safely transporting inmates to various locations, assisting in physical altercations and emergencies when necessary, and performing additional duties as assigned by supervisors. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential. Must be able to work well with others in a team environment. Must pass the following pre-employment screenings: criminal background check, physical exam, psychological evaluation, and drug test. Physical Demands include having the ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, and lift as part of daily duties. Must be capable of handling physical confrontations when required. Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Must be able to hear and respond to verbal instructions, alarms, and radio communications. In this work environment you may be exposed to inclement weather. Shift work is required, including weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime. May involve contact with individuals who are mentally ill, physically violent, or charged/convicted of crimes. Potential exposure to hazardous or unsanitary conditions. Must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. Citizen, have a High school diploma or GED and a Valid Texas driver's license. Must have no conviction or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor or higher within the last 10 years. Must have the ability to obtain TCOLE Jailer Certification within one year of employment. Must pass written and physical assessments. Six months of recent corrections experience preferred.
